Nigel Barber - Company Director

Quill Power Communications Limited is headed by Nigel Barber, a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). A communications graduate and former journalist with the Chester Chronicle group, Nigel has over 20 years of public relations and stakeholder management experience, working in a number of different sectors, including transport and education.

A seven year spell with Railtrack/Network Rail included a role as Head of Communications for Network Rail's £9 billion West Coast Route Modernisation programme from 2002 to 2004, leading cross industry communications through to the successful introduction of Virgin's 125mph London-Manchester service.

Nigel formed Quill Power Communications Limited in 2004 with a view to providing first class public relations guidance and support to a wide variety of clients. Projects to date have included:

  • Communications management for Network Rail's £250 million Stafford Area Improvements Programme and delivery agents the Staffordshire Alliance, responsible for creating and delivering the strategy for all internal and external communications across the programme.
  • Communications management for Network Rail's £280 million project to upgrade the Great Northern Great Eastern Lin from Peterborough to Doncaster via Spalding, Lincoln and Gainsborough.
  • Arriva's successful 'CrossCountry' franchise bid.
  • Communications guidance in support of the extension of the Manchester Metrolink.
  • Communications/marketing support to the Institution of Railway Operators and the promotion of its professional development programme.
  • Editorship of 'Train Times' — the flagship publication for the Association of Community Rail Partnerships.
