In developing the communications strategy for Network Rail's £250 million Stafford Area Improvements Programme and delivery partner the Staffordshire Alliance, Nigel used his extensive experience in the rail industry to deliver an outstanding approach for both internal and external stakeholders. His enthusiasm and professional manner is second to none and was instrumental in achieving outstanding results for our portfolio of projects.
"Nigel has a keen understanding of the rail industry and delivers effective and pragmatic communication approaches relevant to the business. He is able to develop clear and meaningful communication methods that help foster productive stakeholder relationships."
Network Rail hired Quill Power Communications to undertake a discreet piece of project work around the investment and improvement Network Rail was, and is, undertaking on the East Coast main line — the main route from London to Leeds, York, Newcastle and Edinburgh. The route had been suffering from poor performance and poor perceptions from key stakeholders. In tandem with its customers, Network Rail was actively addressing these issues with significant investment featuring short, medium and long-term solutions to the issues of performance, quality of service and capacity. Quill Power Communications was tasked with devising an overall communications strategy for this work, identifying key stakeholders, bringing on-board and working with key customers and initiating a pro-active programme of communications activity, before handing the continuing work over to the in-house team. Quill Power did an admirable job, with its in depth industry knowledge and personable approach, customers/stakeholders were successfully engaged via a coherent and affective communications strategy. We would not hesitate in securing the services of Quill Power again should the opportunity arise.
"A key skill for successful communications is the ability to make the complicated uncomplicated, the confusing common sense and to capture key messages from the most complex of issues. Nigel's strength lies in his ability to interpret and then successfully convey the most difficult of topics."
"Nigel provided stakeholder management support both during the successgul CrossCountry franchise bid and also during the mobilisation phase, engaging with stakeholders regarding the resulting timetable changes. His support and guidance helped to ensure the successful communication of Arriva's aspirations to stakeholders, with Nigel helping to effectively manage all stakeholder engagement, capturing and monitoring all feedback."
"Although ACoRP is a relatively small organisation, we still need to maintain a national public profile. With limited staff, it can often be difficult to find the skills needed to provide a professional level of presentation in the time available. Nigel understands our requirements and is able to translate our wishes into publications and displays that we can be proud of. He is also acutely aware of the sensitivities involved in our line of work and always seems able to find the right words when we're struggling!"
"Nigel has worked with me and for me for a number of years within the rail industry. For a down to earth, dependable, professional and value for money public relations and communications service, I have no hesitation in recommending him."
"From the smallest soundbite to the complete public consultation exercise, Nigel will deliver a professional and comprehensive package. He is media savvy, has an eye for a story and the ability to calm troubled PR waters."
